We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Hollow Metal Order Writer to join our team. This individual will be responsible for reviewing and processing hollow metal door and frame orders with accuracy and efficiency, managing direct shipments to job sites, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring acknowledgements and orders are complete, correct, and delivered on schedule. The role also drives cost savings by securing competitive pricing, obtaining and analyzing quotes, identifying alternate sourcing opportunities, and negotiating with suppliers to achieve the best value for our projects. The ideal candidate will have strong Division 8 knowledge, proven experience with hollow metal manufacturer ordering systems, and the ability to balance technical precision with supplier management and cost control.
Responsibilities
Follow and adhere to IOS Core Values. Review construction documents, plans, and specifications to determine scope of work and Division 8 requirements. Interpret hollow metal door schedules, hardware schedules, and architectural drawings/blueprints. Accurately complete take-offs and prepare door/frame orders for pricing and entry. Review and compare manufacturer quotes for completeness, compliance with specifications, and accuracy of construction. Determine best product selections based on specifications, pricing, and delivery. Input orders into manufacturer systems. Prepare shop drawings, elevations, schedules, and submittals using manufacturer catalogs. Validate that orders meet local and national code requirements. Manage Direct Ship orders by processing and tracking shipments sent directly to job sites, reviewing order acknowledgements for accuracy and completeness, addressing and resolving discrepancies with suppliers, coordinating delivery schedules and following up with suppliers to ensure on-time shipments. Drive cost savings by obtaining and analyzing vendor quotes, identifying alternate sourcing options to support schedules and reduce costs, and negotiating with suppliers to secure the best possible pricing. Provide technical and problem-solving support to Project Managers, Sales, and other team members. Support continuous improvement of department processes and assist with special projects as needed. Qualifications
3+ years of industry experience in Division 8, with a focus on hollow metal doors and frames. Extensive knowledge of hollow metal manufacturer ordering systems and processes. Experience with order acknowledgements, direct shipping coordination, supplier follow-up, and cost negotiations. Proficiency with Comsense, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Smartsheet. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. DHI training preferred but not required. Preferred Qualities
