Whilst Southern Water is an organisation we are currently going through key transformational programmes, therefore joining us will offer you windows of opportunity in this highly enterprising role.With a salary of up to £44,000 (depending on skills and experience), the successful applicant will be expected to support the Operational Managers with recruitment and assist the H&S team with investigating and reviewing any safety related issues or incidents, to ensure robust resolutions are deployed irradiating further occurrences.The successful candidate will need to have engineering qualifications to at least HNC level in both electrical and mechanical fields. Detailed knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act (HASAWA), Electricity At Work Regulations (EAWR) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) will also be required, as well as extensive technical knowledge and experience to enable them to deliver a high level of service.The Senior Authorised Person will take responsibility for the implementation and operation of the mechanical / electrical safe systems of work to effectively control risk and this will be a central role for the safe maintenance and operation of the companies’ High Voltage systems to ensure no danger arises.

The successful individual will have a demonstrable background within a maintenance operations based position and have extensive electrical knowledge and experience of Low Voltage Industrial Systems.In addition to the above it is essential that the successful individual has proven High Voltage Switching Operations knowledge and experience.A high degree of mechanical engineering knowledge will also be required in acting as the focal point for mechanical related issues experienced within the operational teams.Working alongside a team of approx. 40 Authorised Persons, with a network of teams below this level, you will be the escalation point for technical questions, advice and guidance in both electrical and mechanical fields. The technical competency signoff of these teams will also be part of the role via regular 3 year review of the team members.No two days will be the same as you will cover a large area, whilst also providing support on the setup and installation of new equipment.You will need to have the ability to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and be able to communicate with people at all levels.
