Job Summary Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist 1 in the Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services (HHVS) will serve as an extension of the Executive Communications Division to assist in managing communication efforts, including media inquiries, data analysis, reporting and content creation.

Required Tasks

Media & Public Relations

Assist in drafting press releases, statements, talking points, and responding to media inquiries related to the Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services

Assist in developing strategy and communication efforts to improve earned media

Assist in creating and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets

Content Creation & Events

Support content creation for social media

Support the coordination of events, conferences, and other public appearances

Other Required Tasks

Provide communication support to the Director of Communications and HHVS directors.

Chief support activities include:

Strategic communication planning

Developing and tracking key performance indicators for the department

Remain current on services and events provided by HHVS

Coordinate with Communications Director and communications team by attending weekly meeting

Arrange for content, design updates & modifications to the HHVS website and any other electronic communication method

Create and support the Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services brand

Develop recommendations for policy and practices that enable HHVS to realize the value of effective internal and external social networking

Coordinate and participate in special events

Communicate with local organizations and government officials, as needed

Job Qualifications

Educational Requirement

Bachelor's degree in fields related to Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations, Journalism, or Public Administration

Experience Requirements

5 to 10 years of experience in written and verbal communication, data analysis, communication strategy, along with specialized program development & implementation.

Experience in public speaking in front of various audiences such as internal and external stakeholders, executive staff and media.

Graduate degree preferred in Communications or Journalism.

Salary: $52,531 - $73,544 per year
