Job Description
ZACHRY GROUP is currently seeking a Senior Piping Designer for our Charlotte ZEC office. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to challenging design projects in the Energy & Chemicals and Power industries.
Responsibilities
Support the Discipline Supervising Engineer by managing design and drafting activities, overseeing staff, and ensuring project schedules and budgets.
Implement assignments delegated from the Group Supervisor and direct the activities of drafters, designers, and support personnel.
Manage the completion of construction drawings, design studies, and bills of materials.
Schedule work assignments and provide guidance, training, and assistance to designers and drafters on small to medium size projects.
Coordinate with client and construction personnel to address client input and job requirements consistently with contractual requirements.
Assist in preparing engineering and construction estimates and estimating design and drafting manpower requirements.
Ensure final approval of drawings to conform with applicable codes, specifications, and discipline standards.
Maintain engineering document indices, drafting progress reports, and confirm vendor shop drawings are correctly checked and approved.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or Associate’s Degree with adequate drafting courses.
Minimum 12+ years of piping design/checking experience within the power and/or energy & chemicals industry.
Overall understanding of technical disciplines and project execution.
Strong CAD skills with experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit and willingness to learn additional platforms.
Preferred Plant 3D and/or Aveva E3D experience.
Chemical/Refinery/Power/LNG background preferred.
Strong supervision skills with the ability to mentor, lead, train, and motivate employees.
Analytical, creative problem‑solving, feedback, project, and time‑management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in CADWorx, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Certificate in Design/Drafting preferred.
Physical Demands The position requires communication in person, via telephone, and email. Use of arms and hands for steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi‑limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May require lifting, carrying, and moving objects safely.
Work Environment General office environment with fast‑paced work. Occasionally required to work in an industrial location with moderate to high noise levels. Job sites may include heavy equipment, materials, communication tools, and signaling equipment.
