JOB SUMMARY
Takes lead responsibility for specific projects. Acts as cognizant engineer for assigned systems. A highly effective point of contact for specific area of expertise, and for division-wide issues. Reports administratively to Sr. Supervisor or Manager. Team Leader in design development; organizes and leads problem resolution teams. Interfaces extensively with other engineering groups, customers, Production, QA, Purchasing, suppliers, regulatory bodies and other organizations as required. Assists Manager or Sr. Supervisor in planning, scheduling and work control functions. Leads project teams. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Responsible for effective analysis of problems in area of specialization and for dissemination of information across Engineering disciplines. Independently solves complex design problems within discipline, and coordinates solution of interdepartmental problems. Uses independent decision making abilities and leads trouble analysis teams in resolution of technical problems. Responsible for maintaining expertise at “state of the art” level and for training others within department. Regularly takes on team lead assignments. Represents company on official business. Represents division/department at interdepartmental meetings, walkabouts. Acts as technical mentor to division. Leads training efforts. Assumes additional responsibilities or performs varying work as working situations dictate. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned. Completes all tasks within cost and schedule commitments, with the highest quality output. Provides timely resolution of problems. Develops highly effective designs and work products. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
2-year Assoc. Degree (or equivalent). BS Eng. Degree preferred. 15 years experience in detail design of ship systems (structures, mechanical, electrical or outfit) (or 11 years plus BS degree). Recognized as a technical leader within discipline. Maintains current knowledge of world-class practices in industry/within discipline. Leads development of build strategy concepts within area of expertise. Strong knowledge of PC and CAD applications as appropriate to area of expertise. Strong cognizant engineer skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires ability to work in office environment, and when required go aboard ship during construction, climb ladders, work throughout yard, and participate in Sea Trials. Work will generally be confined to a clean office environment but will at times require activity in dusty, dirty areas.
