Save Job

You enjoy owning not just how it looks, but how it works. You’re not here to decorate screens—you’re here to design real, working products from the ground up. You think in user journeys, edge cases, flows, and outcomes. You ask why before you sketch, and you care just as much about usability and clarity as you do about aesthetics.

We’re

Open Legal , and we’re on a mission to

democratize access to justice . We’re building tools that make legal services simpler, smarter, and more accessible—starting with small law firms and the people they serve.

As our first Product Designer, you’ll define the product experience from 0 to 1. You’ll work directly with engineers and founders. There are no product managers, no red tape—you are the owner of the user experience, from research and flows to final pixels and documentation.

What You’ll Do

Lead design end-to-end Own everything from initial sketches to high-fidelity Figma files. Design the flows, interactions, and visuals—and refine them post-launch.

Talk to users Conduct interviews, usability tests, and synthesize feedback into actionable insights. Know what matters to our customers, not just what looks good.

Understand the landscape Research competitors, uncover white space, and help us build a product that feels inevitable.

Write, explain, and document Create detailed specs, UX notes, and expected outcomes. You’ll define how things work, and make sure engineering has what they need to bring your designs to life.

Design for what’s coming You’ll define test cases, help identify edge cases, and think beyond launch.

What We’re Looking For

2–5 years of experience designing digital products

A strong portfolio showing thoughtful UX work and real product impact

Proficiency in Figma and a strong grasp of interaction design

Great written and verbal communication—you can explain the “why” behind every pixel

High ownership—you want to be part of early decisions, not just downstream execution

Comfort in ambiguity and startup environments

Bonus Points If You Have:

Experience working without a PM or QA—where design is the spec

Familiarity with SaaS, legal tech, or AI-driven products

Ability to write clear product expectations or test cases

Comfort in startup-style roles where you wear multiple hats

Why Open Legal?

Mission-driven work:

Help make the legal system more accessible and understandable

Full ownership:

You’re not just designing screens—you’re shaping the product

Direct impact:

No red tape. Just you, users, and a team that ships

Design-first culture:

We believe product design is product strategy

Flexible & remote-friendly:

We care about outcomes, not location
