This role requires proactive leadership of the project design team and collaboration with Product, Sales, Operations, and external consultants to deliver data center design solutions. Key Responsibilities
Preparation and execution of Architectural and Engineering Consultant Agreements defining Scope of Work, Scope of Services and Fees based on Owner’s Project Requirements, design standards, and system specifications. Preparing scope of work, scope of services, and solicitations for services including Request for Qualifications/Request for Proposals; evaluation of same and justification for selection. Ensuring alignment between Owner’s requirements and Construction Documents; manage the quality and timeliness of AE performance. Review and approval of consultant invoices. Interact with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) for planning, requirements identification, approvals, and maintaining relations through project completion. Manage monthly project design work plans, schedules, and budgets. Lead daily management of the project design team (internal and external) and equipment suppliers to ensure required services are provided in a proactive and professional manner. Assign and manage workload of Consultants to prevent overload and quality issues. Ensure all projects are properly documented, designed, and priced per customer/lease requirements. Participate as Owner’s representative in AOC and OAC meetings; keep internal stakeholders informed of design elements and changes; coordinate design presentations between Owner group and AE Consultants. Contribute to continuous development of program standards and specifications. Provide guidance regarding efficient and cost-effective solutions across verticals; assist Product and Construction Teams with pricing guidelines. Assist with existing facilities’ capital and Tenant Improvement projects as requested. Develop design concepts for new projects based on Owner’s Project Requirements and business case. Review design quality against locality specifics, climate, workforce, and existing standards; ensure deviations are properly documented when approved. Lead PRO/CON and cost impact reporting; present to the team for consensus. Present design solutions to internal departments and Authorities Having Jurisdiction; support site/project due diligence studies. Perform QA/QC of project documentation; manage expenditures within budget and oversee value analysis. Ensure all design aspects are overseen/approved by the appropriate team, especially for changes or exceptions. Collaborate with Product, Sales, and Operations to align product design, timelines, and solutions with project goals. Discuss new process efficiencies, products, and data center configurations as needed. Oversee consultant strategy and review; provide design input and coordinate with stakeholders to satisfy tenant needs within building constraints. Interpret, explain, verify, coordinate, and implement Basis of Design for specific customer requirements; ensure 100% documentation for reference. May participate in global standardization processes. Knowledge of contractual and building regulation obligations. Ability to interpret design and construction drawings/specifications, project schedules, and budgets. Extensive experience in data centers or equivalent industrial facilities with emphasis on MEP, security/monitoring, fire detection/suppression, and control systems; experience with IT design projects is a plus. Excellent coordination and project management skills; strong verbal and written communication. Familiarity with Building Codes, Federal ADA guidelines, and OSHA. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to present ideas and evaluate others in meetings. Experience coordinating intra-disciplinary departments to assess needs and program requirements. Understanding of design and construction budgets and balancing design requirements to budgets. Ability to develop creative and innovative cost-saving solutions without sacrificing quality. Ability to defend design choices and articulate impact of deviations. Ability to develop and take new design concepts through detailed design, peer review, executive review, construction, and operation. Thorough understanding of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical design concepts. Familiarity with AIA documents is desired; proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Bluebeam; working knowledge of CAD/Design software (AutoCAD and/or Revit) is a benefit. Experience with BIM and IPD delivery methods is a plus. Academic Qualifications & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field; professional licenses or certifications are desirable but not required. Required Experience
Strong working knowledge of CSA and MEP systems; Architectural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering background is a plus. Minimum 5 years of experience in data centers or Critical Facilities; experience with new construction, tenant improvements, and capital projects. Demonstrated project management experience; PMP or PgMP is a plus. Experience with consultant negotiation and management; prior experience leading project teams and coordinating multiple stakeholders. Experience with Revit and/or other BIM applications. Physical Requirements
Primarily stationary for extended periods; close visual work on a computer; dexterity for keyboards and devices. Work Conditions & Other Requirements
Remote position with reliable internet connection; some travel (~25%) to support due diligence, design, and construction of data centers across the US. Some work in data center environments with varying temperatures and noise; some off-hour meetings may be required due to global interactions. On rare occasions, emergency meetings may occur during off hours or PTO. This is a remote position that provides a monthly stipend to cover remote-work expenses; base salary is $118,300 - $193,400; annual bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits apply.
