IMEG is growing, and we’re looking for a

Structural Project Designer

in either our Chicago or Naperville, IL office. The role leads design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborates with senior staff on larger, high-complexity projects. Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry, working within the project budget, and mentoring cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Responsibilities

Lead analysis and design of structural systems using various building materials; create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.

Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information; build and maintain client relationships.

Collaborate with a project team on planning, budgeting, and scheduling; document design decisions and track progress related to percent complete and fees.

Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; work with senior engineers to develop practical solutions.

Provide in-process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to meet quality standards and client requirements.

Stay up to date with industry trends and contribute to research, development, and innovation within IMEG.

Prioritize safety and conduct work in an ethical and professional manner.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions; identify potential project problems and seek guidance from the Project Manager.

Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.

Required Skills/Abilities

Proficiency in design techniques and tools for producing technical plans and specifications.

Strong technical and analytical skills in mechanics and materials, load paths, and design standards for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.

Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff; proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and BIM tools.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and adaptability to new challenges.

Proficiency in MS Office; ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent (required).

Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred.

Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred.

Minimum 3 years of experience (4+ preferred) in the building design consulting industry; alternate path with an associate degree or BIM/engineering certificate and 7+ years of experience (8+ preferred).

Salary and Benefits Salary Range: $90,000 – $100,000. Minimums and maximums may vary by location. Pay based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Benefits include health insurance, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement plan, paid holidays and PTO, and tuition reimbursement. Eligible to enroll in health, dental, vision, and life insurance on the first day of employment.
