UI Health - Staff Nurse I - 5NE Surgical (Flex Nights, 100% Full-Time) Hiring Department: 5NE Surgical Location: Main Hospital, Chicago, IL USA Requisition ID: 1037416 FTE: 1 (40 hours per week) Work Schedule: Combination of 12 hour & 8 hour shifts per week Shift: Flex Nights Posting Open Date: 10/16/2025 Salary: The previously determined range for this position was $36.08/hr to $80.98/hr. The final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position. This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date. Position Summary: The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and strives to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. The nurse advocates for patients and families, develops educational plans, and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care. Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.

Shares information and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care.

Verifies and implements orders from physicians and other providers, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.

Engages with patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.

Recognizes symptoms, sets priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.

Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides coaching.

Advocates for patients, families, and the nursing profession.

Integrates knowledge and evidence-based practices to provide quality patient care as measured by nursing quality standards.

Assumes the role of Charge Nurse when assigned and utilizes appropriate resources.

Collaborates with nurses to promote learning experiences for staff and students.

Serves as preceptor or resource to nursing staff and students.

Takes responsibility for ongoing professional growth and development.

Other duties as assigned, including participation in special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications.

Current ACLS, or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.

Effective communication skills (oral and written).

Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the EHR with on-the-job training.

Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
