Barnes & Thornburg's Client Growth team is focused on enhancing and enabling revenue creation for the firm and its attorneys through inside sales and business development support throughout the sales lifecycle. The Client Growth & Marketing Specialist will report to the Senior Client Growth Manager and will serve in a supportive role in the Client Growth and Marketing Department’s execution of the firm’s strategic growth plan. This position actively assists in the execution of day-to-day marketing and business development activities for assigned practices and geographies. The CGMS handles a variety of responsibilities, including basic pitches and proposals, research initiatives, market-facing presentations, and the coordination of events, sponsorships, charitable, and community engagements. The CGMS is a highly visible role and serves as the “face” of the department in a first-line service position for assigned practices and geographies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Primary duties and responsibilities necessary for successful job performance include :
Creates and edits presentations, graphics and pitches for assigned practices and offices in collaboration with CG managers. Liaises with Proposal Team on more complex projects to help pull and gather relevant information.
Leverages business intelligence and BD tools for basic research in support of attorney marketing and BD efforts, including compiling and succinctly presenting data on prospects, clients, industries, and legal / sector trends.
In conjunction with Client Growth and Marketing (CGM) colleagues, coordinates planning and execution of on-site and off-site business development and marketing events and activities, including substantive programs and CLEs, webinars, networking and social events, trainings, roundtables, conferences, exhibitions, and more.
Manages collection and categorization of legal experience for pitches and proposals for the assigned groups.
Assists Senior Client Growth Managers with business development-related administrative reports and presentations.
Collaborates with CGM managers in identifying, coordinating, and supporting practice and office sponsorships, memberships, and contributions to further strategic objectives.
Works closely with CGM leaders to contribute to the development and monitoring of office and / or practice budgets based on identified priorities and recommended marketing and BD activities and investments.
Serves as a key point of contact for relevant Office Administrators, Office Managing Partners and / or practice leaders to ensure consistent communication about, and support for, marketing and BD activities and expenditures.
Provides information to content and communications professionals on newsworthy occurrences and activities in order to facilitate timely promotion.
Provides regular updates to assigned offices and / or practices on CGM activities and initiatives both locally and across the firm to raise general awareness of resources and opportunities for collaboration.
Assists with the management, allocation, and tracking of ticket usage in relevant offices, including updating database by recording clients / prospects / media contacts with whom tickets are used.
Ensures availability of marketing collateral in assigned offices. Assists in selecting, pricing and suggesting client gifts and giveaways for events and sponsorships.
Responsible for having a robust understanding of supported practice groups and geographies, including the products and services they offer to the firm's clients, to effectively relay this experience and identify potential synergies where existing experience can be applied to other clients and prospects including alignment and introduction of key practitioners able to meet niche needs.
Works hand-in-hand with Legal Department leadership, other peers, and other administrative departments including Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, and Graphic Design to identify ways to deliver the same information to different audiences.
Coordinates activities required to produce lawyer ranking submissions.
Coordinates industry / practice relationships in conjunction with Client Growth Manger and lead attorney for the supported practices in conjunction with outside sales professionals. Executes and provides consistent thoughtful contributions on determined plans for thought leadership, event, and sponsorship strategy.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
The position requires a minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience during which the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities were attained.
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate experience in a professional services role.
Strong communication and interpersonal and communication skills are required to facilitate effective communication with a diverse range of individuals at all levels of the organization.
High-level service orientation and demonstrated resourcefulness in problem solving and taking ownership.
Must be fluent in MS Office Suite. Prefer experience in various technology platforms, such as CRM systems.
Demonstrated project management experience is an asset to this role.
Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization and work effectively both independently and with others in a cooperative, enthusiastic, and friendly manner to accomplish position functions and participate in team efforts.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines, and managing workload.
Ability to leverage research and competitive intelligence to identify business opportunities and support go-to-market strategies.
Strong knowledge of, and familiarity with, legal and business environments.
