Job Overview The Assistant Editor for Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP) will develop, write, and edit content for AIChE’s flagship monthly trade magazine. The role requires a strong grasp of the English language, excellent writing and editing skills, and a solid background in chemical engineering fundamentals. Responsibilities Identify, research, and write the New Products section of the magazine. Edit outside-authored feature articles as assigned. Develop content for editorial departments such as Emerging Voices and Profile columns. Collaborate with the art/design department to prepare graphics, source images, and design concepts. Prepare draft layouts using Adobe InDesign and finalize layouts for PDF production. Copyedit and proofread other editors’ articles as assigned. Spot newsworthy developments in chemical engineering research and the chemical process industry and suggest editorial coverage. Represent CEP at AIChE conferences, trade shows, and relevant meetings. Establish contacts with leading authorities to foster article ideas and source content. Execute other assigned projects as directed by the manager. Qualifications & Skills Experience in a technical capacity in the chemical process industry, academia, or related field. Demonstrated writing and editing skills; a writing and editing test will be required. Excellent reading, reasoning, and attention-to-detail skills. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Ability to work independently and contribute to a team. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (or comparable page layout and design software). Compensation & Benefits Compensation Range: $65,000–$75,000.
