Overview Technical Illustrator & Writer III role at Raytheon. The candidate will join the Integrated Talent Development (ITD) Team to create, maintain, and evolve technical documentation and illustrations that support learning & development programs and applications. The person will translate complex integrated systems and processes into clear graphical instruction, develop visual aids, and explore AI-enhanced content for an AI-powered Learning Assistant. This role emphasizes accessibility, adoption, and a DIY learning culture.
What you will do Thoughtfully understand the ITD learning and development paradigm—with emphasis on knowledge-transfer systems/tools, processes, and culture.
Develop and maintain precise, high-quality technical documentation and visuals that translate complex systems, processes, and workflows into clear, graphical instructional content that boosts user understanding and confidence.
Take ownership of projects from concept to completion—analyzing requirements, anticipating integrated implications, and championing continuous improvement.
Innovate visual approaches to optimize user adoption and engagement, utilizing visuals such as exploded diagrams, pictorial instructions, system diagrams, process maps, and flow charts (potential collaboration on motion graphics and videos as needed).
Continuously refine documentation and visuals based on process/tool changes and user feedback—aiming to improve adoption, usability, and learning outcomes.
Maintain a consistent visual style and graphics library, including tone and terminology.
Collaborate on and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, iterative environment, ensuring ITD brand consistency in all solutions.
Qualifications you must have Typically requires Bachelor’s in Technical Writing, Instructional Design, or related field with a minimum of 5+ years of experience; OR advanced degree in related field with minimum of 3+ years of experience.
Experience with a representative portfolio that demonstrates technical illustration & technical writing skill as well as capability using relevant tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Visio, and/or equivalents).
Experience comprehending integrated concepts, systems & processes to produce documentation that accurately and accessibly represents complete systems as well as the individual system components.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Qualifications We Prefer Strong visual problem-solving skills: quickly grasp complex or abstract concepts and convey them in a clear, structured, and engaging manner with maximum clarity and minimal clutter.
The ability to create AI-optimized source documentation that supports clear, trustworthy LLM responses to build a reliable internal knowledge base for our AI Learning Assistant.
The ability to create content tailored to a range of distinct user audiences — supporting basic understanding for the general user population as well as more in-depth technical understanding for power users.
Meticulous attention to detail and excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Remote: Employees in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
