Position Summary:

Harrisburg University is seeking a creative and conscientious student to serve as a Social Media Intern for HU's Marketing & Communications (MarComm) Team. This position offers hands-on experience in digital storytelling, content creation, and community engagement. The intern will assist in developing and implementing social media strategies that showcase the University's students, programs, and events across a variety of platforms.

The Social Media Intern plays a critical role in shaping the university's digital presence, engaging with key audiences, and enhancing the university's reputation and brand recognition across multiple platforms. This is an on-campus role that requires periodic attendance at campus events - including (occasionally) in the evening and on weekends.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with planning, creating, and posting content for official University social media accounts (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook).
  • May occasionally work with departments within HU to promote and market major events.
  • Capture and edit photos and short-form videos from campus events and student activities.
  • Position includes opportunities to learn how to operate a Canon mirrorless camera and edit photos using Adobe Lightroom.
  • Assist with brainstorming creative campaigns to highlight student achievements, faculty research, and University events.
  • Stay up to date with trends in higher-education social media and digital communications.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a current Harrisburg University student in good academic standing.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have familiarity with major social media platforms and basic content creation tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.).
  • Creative mindset and eye for visual storytelling.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Prior experience managing organizational social media accounts is a plus.
  • Position includes regular mentoring from the Marcomm team on best practices with media equipment, design techniques, and social media.
Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this internship, the student will have developed:
  • Practical experience managing professional social media accounts.
  • Skills in visual communication, analytics, and campaign planning.
  • A digital portfolio of content produced for university audiences.
Hours and Compensation:
  • Paid position (Federal Work-Study eligible): $15/hour.
  • Hours per week: 10 hours.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate class commitments.
