Overview
Advertising Associate, Direct at Hachette Book Group. The central advertising team seeks an organized and meticulous individual with experience in media planning and/or book publishing to oversee the execution of ad campaigns and collaborate with the Assistant Director of Ads to advance HBG’s direct advertising program.
The candidate will move multiple campaigns from planning through reporting, provide insights about advertising behavior for fiction and nonfiction books, and help share best practices for HBG’s direct advertising. This is a role for a detail-oriented, collaborative professional eager to learn about book publishing and advertising.
The advertising associate will report to the Assistant Director of Direct Advertising and work across all of Hachette’s divisions.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Shepherds advertising plans through ideation, planning, revisions, creative development, trafficking, optimizing, and reporting.
- Advocates for plans rooted in data and lessons from companywide experiences.
- Thinks critically and creatively about advertising opportunities.
- Project manages the creative process and traffics campaigns within company systems with attention to data intake processes.
- Optimizes campaigns to drive strong performance and communicates with divisional marketers about performance, insights, and suggestions.
- Keeps current on advertising and marketing for adult books by attending industry events, studying data, and running test campaigns.
- Coordinates with Hachette’s finance team to manage invoices and budgets and coordinate payments for campaigns.
- Provides general administrative support, including creating decks/reports, submitting invoices, and scheduling meetings.
- Builds trusting relationships with vendors and imprint marketers to ensure superb service.

Ideal candidate experience
- 1–2 years of experience in marketing or advertising, preferably within book publishing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with ad serving, DSPs, and/or dynamic creative optimization is a plus.
- Familiarity with the marketing funnel, campaign evaluation metrics, and advertising KPIs.
Compensation and work expectations
The compensation range for this position is $48,800–$61,800. Salary can vary based on factors including skills, experience, and location. There may be times that overtime is required due to workload or special projects.
