Position Summary

The Broadcast Technician is the backbone of Patriot Telecom’s broadcast specialty division. This role requires a craftsperson with an installer’s precision and an engineer’s eye for detail. The Broadcast Technician is responsible for the physical installation, termination, testing, and documentation of broadcast infrastructure — ensuring every cable, connector, and rack is executed to the highest standard of broadcast readiness. This is not just about pulling wire; it’s about delivering broadcast-grade systems that stand up to the scrutiny of live production environments, where failure is not an option. The ideal candidate takes pride in clean dressing, meticulous labeling, and technical accuracy down to the last connector.

Core Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate SMPTE 2110 cabling systems for IP-based broadcast.
  • Deploy and maintain SDI infrastructure for legacy and hybrid broadcast environments.
  • Dress, secure, and label racks, patch bays, and cable trays to Patriot’s broadcast standards.
  • Fiber Optics
  • Terminate, polish, and land singlemode and multimode fiber (LC, SC, ST).
  • Perform fusion splicing (single fiber and mass fusion with 12R).
  • Conduct OTDR testing and certify results for client closeout packages.
  • Terminate and test Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A structured cabling.
  • Install and dress coaxial, Triax, and BNC connections for cameras, routers, and monitors.
  • Professional Audio Cabling
  • Pull, terminate, and dress XLR and AES/EBU cabling for control rooms, studios, and venues.
  • Ensure all terminations meet industry broadcast standards for shielding and signal integrity.
  • Quality Control
  • Build broadcast racks and BSPs with precision cable management and high quality of workmanship.
  • Verify all work with Fluke and broadcast-grade test equipment.
  • Submit accurate daily reports and redline as-builts when changes occur.
  • Team & Client Interaction
  • Work under Foremen and Lead Techs to meet scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Interface with broadcast engineers and integrators to align installations with design intent.
  • Mentor junior techs in craftsmanship and installation standards.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years in broadcast, low-voltage, or AV installation environments.

Proven proficiency in:

  • SMPTE 2110 and SDI systems.
  • Copper cabling (Cat6/6A terminations).
  • Coaxial (Triax, BNC).
  • Experience working in live broadcast environments (studios, control rooms, stadiums, OB trucks).
  • Deep knowledge of industry standards (SMPTE, BICSI, ANSI/TIA).
  • Ability to read and interpret broadcast drawings, risers, and rack elevations.
  • Strong commitment to craftsmanship — pride in cable dressing, labeling, and documentation.
  • Craftsman’s Mindset – Treats every cable run like it’s on display.
  • Detail-Oriented – Understands that one mislabeled connector can derail an entire broadcast.
  • Team Player – Works collaboratively under direction, but steps up to mentor and lead when needed.
  • Problem-Solver – Finds solutions in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Accountable – Owns their work and holds themselves to Patriot’s high broadcast standards.
  • We’re looking for technicians who take pride in clean day-one installs and who think ahead to how that system will perform on day two.
