Faculty - Tenure Track - Creative Writing Job at Utah Valley University in Orem

Utah Valley University’s Department of English invites applications for a tenure‑track position in Creative Writing specializing in fiction. The successful candidate will teach courses in creative writing and first‑year composition in our growing undergraduate creative writing emphasis.

Applicants must hold an MFA or PhD in creative writing by the time of appointment, maintain a significant publication record in fiction (or creative nonfiction), and demonstrate excellence in teaching writing. Candidates with PhDs and experience teaching multiple genres are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Classroom instruction, lesson planning, lecturing, and grading of all coursework
• Ongoing writing, publication, and professional development (reading, research, conferences)
• Meetings with students for academic planning, thesis advising, career guidance, and specific writing consultations
• Committee work, curriculum development, program administration, and community outreach

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced teaching skills in creative writing
• Commitment to designing and offering courses that represent the breadth and diversity of literary voices publishing today

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching writing
• Significant publication record in fiction or creative nonfiction
