This position reports to the Assistant Director of Library Academic Services. As a member of the Open Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) cross‑institutional team, this position provides support for open education activities, supporting faculty and staff by providing OER discovery and copyright review, offering CC licensing consultations, and supporting OER publishing platforms. The librarian will provide open access guidance at the College and act as liaison to one of the schools at SLCC, engaging in the Library Liaison program by coordinating with faculty and academic administrators to help provide resources needed for student and faculty success. The librarian will provide information literacy instruction, research assistance, and reference services for students, staff, faculty, and administrators.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of current trends in OER, open education, and open scholarship.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new tools and skills to support open scholarship and open education.
  • Working knowledge of current laws and trends in copyright, fair use, intellectual property, and open licensing (e.g. Creative Commons).
  • Ability to become and maintain certification in copyright and open licensing (e.g. Creative Commons certification, CCC certification, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn about current trends in scholarly publication.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students.
  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining excellent interpersonal relationships.
  • Experience with planning and providing instruction in an academic setting through a variety of instructional methods and technologies.
  • Familiarity with and experience applying ACRL’s “Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education” in instruction.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and use professional judgement to accomplish required outcomes.
  • Ability to manage, coordinate, communicate, set priorities and boundaries, and collaborate across departments, divisions, schools, and institutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution or an international equivalent recognized by ALA.

Required Experience

  • Experience with OER, open education, materials, and/or scholarly publication.
  • Experience with copyright, open licenses, fair use, and/or Copyright Clearance Center processes.
  • Academic library experience.
  • Instruction experience.
