Overview
Senior Technical Director, Solid Waste at WSP in the U.S. – Charlotte, NC office with consideration for additional locations: Asheville, NC; Durham, NC; Greensboro, NC; or Wilmington, NC.
Be involved in projects with our Civil Ground Engineering & Materials, Earth & Environment Team and help grow our civil design and environmental services within the Power market, with emphasis on Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) and municipal solid waste (MSW).
Role includes leading project teams, providing technical direction, and coordinating client-facing activities to support project delivery and business growth. Travel may be required (up to 10%).
Your Impact
- Work with CCR/MSW team to provide strategic business direction, support client relationships, and execute CCR/Fly Ash/MSW projects.
- Serve as senior CCR/MSW consultant for projects, working with clients to set strategic direction for project execution.
- Develop and present winning client strategies for new and follow-on contracts; contribute to technical, management, and business plans.
- Mentor and coach team members, participate in proposal development, and support pre-sales and post-submission activities.
- Support long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Civil Engineering work in the assigned area.
- Manage and direct project design teams, including roles such as Engineer of Record, Project Manager, or Project Director.
- Ensure profitable project performance and successful completion within the defined area.
- Act as a lead representative/liaison to Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, and industry groups.
- Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Local and national travel to support client meetings and audit project sites.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and valid North Carolina PE registration.
- 12+ years of experience in civil engineering design, including significant experience with CCR ponds and landfills regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with the power market and related clientele.
- Knowledge of in-situ stabilization and civil construction techniques related to CCR or other waste materials.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to convey ideas to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- Proactive self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
- Must complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with technical and business writing, Office software, and related tools.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice.
- Provide expert witness and litigation support as needed.
Local and national travel up to 10% is anticipated to support client and site activities.
