Overview

OpenRoads Senior Designer

with advanced experience in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and Autodesk Civil 3D to contribute to water resources design projects in the Houston, Texas area. The candidate will produce 3D models, drawings, and details for heavy civil infrastructure projects and support BIM/CAD workload coordination within the group and across the multi-state practice. The role involves collaboration with BIM/CAD technicians and designers, civil engineers, and project managers. An AutoCAD Civil 3D skills assessment may be required during the interview process.

Responsibilities

Understands project requirements, scope of work, and deliverables. Provides practice-level input.

Prepares detail and layout drawings and sketches for complex designs requiring theoretical and practical engineering knowledge.

Performs discipline design tasks that regularly apply fundamental engineering concepts with limited input from engineers or architects.

May provide conceptual input during project planning stages.

Interfaces with other practices, groups, clients, vendors, and project engineers to support project production.

Develops and implements new processes to ensure consistent quality.

Manages project models to ensure proper setup, referencing, and maintenance. Contributes to continuous improvement of model setup, standards, templates, and processes.

Provides leadership with a holistic project view and makes independent project-level decisions trusted by engineers. Works under broad assignments guided by project scopes, operating plans, and practice plans. Accomplishments are achieved with minimal supervision.

Provides direction, assistance, and mentoring to BIM/CAD technicians and designers. Ensures deliverables across the practice are professional and aligned with standards, templates, and processes.

Qualifications

11+ years of practice-level experience in engineering design and technical engineering support

Experience using Bentley’s OpenRoads

Experience using Bentley’s ProjectWise

Advanced expertise in computer operation and in BIM/CAD software

Proven ability to learn, adapt, and problem solve to produce accurate and quality deliverables

Ability to work with all levels of personnel

Broad range of work, sometimes complex and non-routine, in various environments

Recommend design changes for project improvements

Estimate and oversee BIM/CAD workload

Overcome obstacles to help a project move forward

Convert written and verbal information into drawings

Knowledge of company, industry, and technical vocabulary

Coordinate with team members

Produce concise, well-written materials and understand project scopes

Create and conduct presentations and training

High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred

BIM/CAD Associate's Degree or Certification
