Principal Product Designer

About The Role We are looking for a Principal Product Designer with a portfolio demonstrating high expertise in both desktop and native mobile projects, complex platforms, and processes that can be articulated through presentation and storytelling. You will be an individual contributor who leads by example, mentors more junior designers, and raises the bar for high‑quality design.
Responsibilities
Define experience strategies and shape the road map for digital academic tools.
Lead design execution for higher education courseware—from wireframes to polished high‑fidelity prototypes, setting creative direction and ensuring quality.
Partner with engineering to support design implementation, ensuring solutions are user‑centric and technically feasible.
Present and communicate UX strategies to senior leadership using prototypes, presentations, and storytelling methods.
Build strong, collaborative relationships across product, engineering, content, marketing, design, and research teams.
Champion user testing for new features and learning journeys, collaborating with product and research teams to design and run effective evaluations.
Facilitate cross‑functional workshops and design‑thinking activities to unlock creative ideas and solve complex challenges in higher education digital products.
Lead by influence, fostering skills and mindsets needed to drive innovation and meet the evolving goals of the Higher Ed UX team.
Take a long‑term view of key design and technology decisions to keep academic tools adaptable, scalable, and relevant for global audiences.
Proactively engage specialists in UX research, accessibility, illustration, or other areas when needed, building a business case for additional resources.
Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience in product design as an individual contributor, delivering seamless experiences and visually pleasing designs.
Strong business acumen, demonstrated through experience in the tech/product industry.
Ability to find solutions that balance reusability, feasibility, customer needs, and business goals.
Experience with design systems.
Experience working in agile product and technology teams.
Compensation: $160,000 – $190,000 per year, plus annual incentive program and benefits.
