Head of Marketing
role at
Pluralis Research .
Location: Oakland, CA. Salary: $200,000.00 – $240,000.00.
Overview Pluralis Research is building Protocol Learning: decentralised, multi‑participant training of large models. We’re hiring a Head of Marketing to define our narrative, grow our brand, and build an engaged technical community around our research, products, and mission.
This is a pure 0 → 1 opportunity. You’ll own story, brand, channels, and community. You are fluent in startup pace, can translate deep tech into crisp narratives, and know how to turn attention into trust, and trust into momentum.
Responsibilities
Craft a clear storyline for Protocol Learning, founders, roadmap, and proof points. Maintain a living messaging house and editorial calendar.
Set and enforce brand system, design standards, and asset quality across web, social, decks, papers, and demos.
Run a focused PR engine: long‑lead narratives, founder profiles, product moments, data stories. Blend traditional PR with newer channels (podcasts, independent tech media, creator newsletters, X).
Grow and steward a technical community (researchers, engineers, hobbyists). Operate Discord, X, GitHub, YouTube, and events with clear rituals and contributor paths.
Ghostwrite and coach for talks, posts, and interviews. Package internal work into external‑ready stories.
Orchestrate announcements for papers, releases, milestones. Build press kits, microsites, and demo scripts.
Define KPIs and run a lightweight reporting cadence.
Stand up a small in‑house pod and a network of specialist contractors.
Success (first 6–12 months)
A sharp, repeatable narrative that shows up consistently across channels.
Visible lift in qualified inbound candidates, collaborators, and users.
Active, civil community with clear participation loops.
3–5 tier‑1 earned hits tied to real news, not vanity.
Founder channels with steady growth and high‑signal engagement.
A durable brand system and asset library that teams actually use.
What You’ll Bring
7+ years across brand, comms, or product marketing in startups or frontier tech.
Proven storytelling and editorial instincts: can turn complex research into simple, compelling arcs.
Brand building: systems, aesthetics, and taste.
PR chops: you can craft the story, place it, and ensure it ladders to goals.
Community sensibility with technical audiences; you understand what researchers and tinkerers value.
Operator mindset: planning, execution, and measurement without heavy process.
Excellent writing and strong visual literacy.
Preferred Experience
Past role marketing deep‑tech, infra, crypto, or OSS to technical audiences.
Grown or been part of a marketing team going from 0 → 1.
Experience spinning up podcasts, newsletters, or event series.
Built and grew a personal or company following on X.
We’re unlocked community knowledge in a new way. Experts add insights directly into each article, started with the help of AI.
