Polysomnographic Technologist Saint Peter’s Healthcare System

Responsibilities

Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify patient‑specific needs and determine testing parameters in conjunction with physician or clinical director.

Complete and verify documentation.

Explain pre‑testing, testing, and post‑testing procedures to patients.

Prepare and calibrate equipment; apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards.

Perform physiologic calibrations and mask fitting.

Conduct Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) titration per lab protocol.

Follow procedural protocols for Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration, etc.

Establish baseline values during “lights out” procedures.

Acquire polysomnographic data while monitoring study quality and making necessary adjustments.

Document routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, changes and significant events.

Implement interventions for patient safety and therapeutic needs (e.g., continuous and bi‑level PAP, oxygen administration).

Verify data integrity during “lights on” procedures and finalize data collection.

Provide age‑specific care across pediatric to geriatric patients.

Oversee difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.

Score sleep/wake stages, clinical events, and generate accurate reports per center protocols.

Maintain equipment, inventory, and CPR or BCLS certification.

Respond to participant inquiries and apply policy consistently.

Comply with safety, infection control, and BRPT Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

Successful completion of a 1‑year polysomnography program from a state‑licensed or nationally accredited institution, or minimum 6‑month experience as a Polysomnographic Technician with documented proficiencies.

Demonstrated written and spoken communication skills.

Ability to follow directions.

Professional certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per American Heart Association.

Salary and Benefits Salary Range: $31.36 – $50.17 per hour.
