Health Promotion Coordinator, Hokie Wellness – Blacksburg, VA
Virginia Tech’s Division of Student Affairs is seeking a Health Promotion Coordinator to support student well‑being and development. The role focuses on assessing needs, creating and implementing programming, and evaluating health promotion strategies, policies, programs, interventions, and services. You will use evidence‑based and theory‑driven initiatives and serve as a content expert and supervisor for student staff and peer educators. The position offers a developmental plan with opportunities for advancement and a base compensation package of $51,000–$53,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities
You’ll join the Hokie Wellness team, providing holistic well‑being resources to the Virginia Tech community across topics such as digital well‑being, nutrition, sexual health, sleep, and body image.
Report to the Assistant Director of Health Education in a Regular twelve‑month, 100% administrative professional appointment.
Support student success, well‑being, and personal development by assessing need, designing and implementing programming, and evaluating health promotion strategies, policies, programs, interventions, and services.
Utilize evidence‑based and theory‑driven health promotion initiatives.
Act as a dynamic teacher addressing a broad array of health topics relevant to the university population.
Assist the Assistant Director of Health Education with student staff supervision, including graduate students and the peer educator team, support large Hokie Wellness events, collaborate with campus partners, and serve as a content expert.
Grow professionally through a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and Division.
Base compensation is $51,000–$53,000 with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, and VT discounts.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health, human development, psychology, or a related field.
Experience and training in leading and supporting peer education teams.
Experience assessing need, designing, implementing, and evaluating health and wellness programs.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain high quality work.
Strong interpersonal skills with public speaking experience, small group facilitation, and 1:1 coaching.
Commitment to inclusive programming and creating belonging for all students.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health, human development, psychology, or a related field.
Experience in health promotion/education in a higher education setting.
CHES certification preferred.
Health coaching experience.
Experience collecting and working with quantitative and qualitative data/research methods.
Other Details
Overtime Status: Exempt, not eligible for overtime.
Appointment Type: Regular.
Salary Information: $51,000–$53,000.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with additional hours as needed for programming.
Hours per week: 40.
Review Date: 11/10/2025.
Additional Information: The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check; applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
