Digital Editor, Mountain West News Bureau

The Mountain West News Bureau, an NPR‑affiliated regional collaboration of public radio stations across eight states, seeks a digital editor who will also serve as assistant editor to the Managing Editor. The bureau, headquartered at Boise State Public Radio, aims to expand public radio reach and engage communities across the Mountain West.

Responsibilities

• Ensure stories are factually correct, impartial, grammatically sound, and written clearly and concisely.
• Post stories to the CMS platform, as needed, in coordination with partner newsrooms.
• Fact‑check stories as directed.
• Develop story ideas in coordination with the Managing Editor, reporters, and other editors.
• Edit both online and broadcast stories, collaborating with the Managing Editor.
• Serve as primary editor/point of contact when the Managing Editor is absent, carrying out essential newsroom tasks.
• Coordinate with the Managing Editor to identify news ideas and stories from partner stations across the Mountain West, facilitating editing and migration so they resonate regionally.
• Help launch a new weekly newsletter for the newsroom—writing, editing, and distributing in collaboration with the Managing Editor and other newsrooms.
• Devise a system of digital metrics in coordination with the Managing Editor and others, including the Executive Director, to track performance of digital content produced by the bureau.
• Regularly produce digital reports/data to help the newsroom identify regional trends.
• Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.

Organization Relationships

• Internal: Strong collaborative relationships with Boise State Public Radio and partner stations across Mountain West states.
• External: Working relationships with NPR and other content providers and technology vendors for the station’s digital platforms.
