General Statement of Duties
Starting in the 2023‑24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools will designate select schools with high rates of vacant positions and provisionally licensed staff as Opportunity Schools. The role will be based in an Opportunity School, with additional resources and support to improve student outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and deliver instruction that meets individual and group learning needs using state guidelines and division curriculum.
- Demonstrate a strong knowledge base of learning theory and best practices.
- Act consistently in the best interests of students and model appropriate behavior in all professional interactions.
- Plan daily instructional activities for secondary students, using the State Standards of Learning and district curriculum.
- Use current school and division data to plan instruction.
- Develop formative and summative assessments, using multiple tools to assess student learning and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain order within the classroom and school through proactive classroom management and a well‑organized learning environment.
- Keep detailed records of student performance and attendance, communicating these data effectively with students and parents.
- Select, requisition, and use instructional materials that stimulate learning and meet the needs of all students.
- Collaborate with other staff (special education, gifted, remediation, etc.) to coordinate instruction for student learning.
- Stay current with educational trends and best practices relevant to classroom instruction and effective schools.
- Maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, parents, patrons, community agencies, and colleagues.
- Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Teaching license in the music curriculum is required.
- Bachelor’s degree, relevant college coursework, and passing Praxis test scores are strongly encouraged.
Compensation and Benefits
- Minimum annual starting salary: $57,925.45 (Bachelor’s), $60,706.02 (Master’s).
- Opportunity School stipend: $3,500.
- Salary prorated based on the official start date, with a contractual start date of July 14, 2025.
