Position Overview

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce seeks a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Communications to lead high-impact media engagement and executive visibility efforts. This position is responsible for shaping and amplifying the Chamber’s voice across traditional and emerging platforms, with a strong emphasis on preparing senior executives for media opportunities and securing high-profile placements.

Responsibilities

Executive Communications and Media Prep

Serve as a trusted adviser to senior leadership, including the CEO and senior vice presidents, on media strategy, messaging, and interview preparation.

Lead the development of briefing materials, talking points, and media training sessions for executives.

Coordinate and staff interviews, ensuring message discipline and alignment with organizational priorities.

Media Relations and Placement

Cultivate strong relationships with national and regional media outlets, including television, radio, podcasts, and digital platforms.

Proactively pitch and secure interviews, op-eds, and feature stories that elevate the Chamber’s policy positions and thought leadership.

Manage rapid response efforts and crisis communications in coordination with legal and policy teams.

Multi-Platform Strategy

Drive integrated communications campaigns that span earned, owned, and social media.

Leverage data and analytics to optimize message delivery across platforms, including LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and podcasts.

Stay ahead of trends in the evolving media landscape, identifying new opportunities for engagement and amplification.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

Lead a team of communications professionals and collaborate closely with colleagues in public affairs, marketing, and policy.

Ensure consistent messaging and brand voice across all external communications.

Support cross-functional initiatives and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.

15+ years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, or public affairs, preferably in a fast‑paced, high‑profile environment.

Proven track record of securing national media coverage, including television and podcast interviews.

Deep understanding of the modern media ecosystem and how to tailor messages for different audiences and platforms.

Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Experience working directly with C‑suite executives and preparing them for public appearances.

Strong judgment, political acumen, and ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion.

The salary range for this position is $210,266.00 to $225,000.00, with the possibility of additional compensation through a discretionary bonus. Our full‑time employees are eligible for benefits, including health care, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.
