Overview The Center for Learning & Using English (CLUE) at South Seattle College is excited to announce opportunities for writing center tutors who are passionate about supporting a diverse range of student needs. CLUE offers more extensive services to cater to the varied requirements of our learners. At CLUE, we engage with students from pre-college to college levels, assisting them in enhancing their language learning and writing abilities. Our goal is to provide a supportive environment where all students can seek help for various needs – whether it's crafting college-level academic papers, developing personal narratives for scholarship applications, improving grammar, or honing conversation skills in small groups. Join us in our mission to empower students at South Seattle College by fostering their language and writing skills in an inclusive and dynamic learning environment. Starting Pay: $21.47/hr Responsibilities Support English Language Learners from all proficiency levels in speaking, listening, writing, reading, and grammar Support students from the English department and other departments in a variety of writing-based assignments Engage respectfully and productively with students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds Conduct tutoring in-person on campus and synchronously through Zoom Manage time effectively during writing sessions, focusing on higher order concerns Prioritize student confidence and agency Exhibit a welcoming, open and flexible attitude Facilitate deeper comprehension of subject matter among tutees Attend tutor-training workshops and complete online tutor trainings Qualifications Effective verbal and written communication skills Solid grounding in English grammar forms, usage and terminology Ability to identify writing styles and grammar/mechanics issues that reduce clarity or cohesion in academic writing Experience working with English language learners Commitment to tutor at least two consecutive quarters Seattle area residence GPA of 3.0 or above for student applicants Submission of resume and cover letter Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a college writing center and familiarity with tutoring best practices Familiarity with Zoom, Canvas LMS, and appointment scheduling systems Experience learning another language in addition to one’s first language(s) Experience traveling or living abroad Experience working closely with ethnic minority groups Flexible availability, including both morning and evening hours Seniority level Entry level Employment type Part-time Job function Education and Training Higher Education #J-18808-Ljbffr
