About 805 Undocufund

The 805UndocuFund started as a grassroots response effort to provide financialassistance to undocumented families in both Ventura and Santa Barbara counties following the ThomasFire and Montecito debris flows. Established by three community organizations (CAUSE, Future Leadersof America, and MICOP), the 805UndocuFund has become a part of our local safety net. The originalmodel rotated responsibilities among organizations; in 2018, MICOP took helm following the ThomasFire and Montecito debris flows, CAUSE took the helm in 2019 and Future Leaders of America tookleadership in 2020 for the COVID19 response efforts. Since its founding, the 805UndocuFund hasprovided over $8 million dollars to more than 6,000 undocumented families impacted by local disastersand the COVID19 pandemic. Most of our recipients have been Latinx and indigenous communitymembers struggling to find resources outside 805UndocuFund. Due to the immense pressures for the"host" organization, the 805UndocuFund steering committee moved to create its own 501(c)3 with itsown staff and Board of Directors. In its new iteration, the 805UndocuFund is figuring out how to compellocal funders to fund the organization year-round as some do not see the need for support. Programmingfor 805UndocuFund includes "small scale" response fund, disaster relief, and plans for a statewideadvocacy network, the CA UndocuFund Network.

Job Title: Communications & Media Organizer

Location: Hybrid - 2 days remote, 3 days in-office (Santa Barbara-Ventura Counties)

Reports To: Primitiva Hernandez, Executive Director

Employment Type: Full-Time (Non-Exempt, 40 hours/week)

Hourly Pay: $26-$32/hour, depending on education and experience

As the lead organization of the 805 Immigrant Coalition and the 805 Immigrant Rapid Response Network, we work to ensure our immigrant and migrant communities are protected, included, and supported with dignity and respect.
Position Overview

The Communications & Media Organizer is a key member of our team responsible for shaping and amplifying the collective voice of 805UndocuFund, the 805 Immigrant Coalition, and the 805 Immigrant Rapid Response Network. This position leads the development of powerful, bilingual communications strategies, designs digital and print materials, and uplifts community stories that advance justice, visibility, and resilience.

The ideal candidate is a bilingual storyteller, strategist, and digital communicator who is grounded in immigrant rights and movement-building.
Key Responsibilities
1. Communications & Media Relations

• Develop and implement strategic and emergency communications plans aligned with 805UndocuFund's mission, campaigns, and coalition priorities.
• Serve as a media point of contact and spokesperson when needed for press inquiries and interviews.
• Draft and distribute bilingual press releases, public statements, talking points, and op-eds.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists, reporters, and partner communicators in the Central Coast region.
• Support in the development of policy briefs, media briefs, and public education materials that inform advocacy and systems change efforts.
• Design reports and visual summaries of organizational impact, coalition initiatives, and campaigns.

2. Coalition & Network Communications

• Support the 805 Immigrant Coalition's shared messaging, ensuring alignment and narrative consistency across partners.
• Coordinate communication tools and updates among coalition members to promote collaboration and visibility.
• Support the 805 Immigrant Rapid Response Network by:
• Monitoring social media pages and community reports for alerts, sightings, and tips related to ICE activity or emergencies.
• Drafting and disseminating bilingual rapid alerts and safety messages in coordination with the network's responders.
• Assisting in digital content creation for community awareness and safety campaigns.

3. Digital Media & Storytelling

• Manage 805UndocuFund's social media accounts, website, and newsletters with a consistent voice centered in equity, dignity, and collective care.
• Develop bilingual multimedia content (graphics, videos, posts) that highlights organizational impact, campaigns, and community stories.
• Maintain a digital content calendar and track analytics to strengthen engagement and reach.
• Capture and organize photo and video documentation from events, summits, and actions.

4. Leadership Development & Capacity Building

• Train and support coalition partners, volunteers, and spokespeople in storytelling, message framing, and media readiness.
• Prepare community leaders for public speaking opportunities, interviews, and press conferences.
• Collaborate with program and organizing staff to integrate communications strategies into campaigns, events, and advocacy efforts.

Qualifications

• Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish (required).
• Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills across digital and print platforms.
• Experience in communications, journalism, media organizing, or advocacy-based campaigns.
• Knowledge of digital media tools and platforms (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, Proton, Cryptpad, Mailchimp, etc.).
• Strong understanding of immigrant justice, social movements, and culturally competent communication.
• Ability to design reports, flyers, and digital content for campaigns and community education.
• Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving as a media spokesperson or communications liaison.
• Familiarity with Ventura and Santa Barbara County immigrant communities.
• Experience with basic graphic design, photography, or video editing.
• Understanding of digital safety practices for community defense and rapid response networks.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly pay: $26 to $32 per hour, depending on education and experience.
• Mileage reimbursement in accordance with California state requirements.
