Description

Position Purpose/Summary The Health Promotion Coordinator (HPC) plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the Lutheran Services Carolinas' New Americans Program. This position is responsible for administering the Refugee Health Promotion (RHP) program across the Lowcountry of South Carolina, which is funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The HPC operates under the umbrella of the Refugee Services Coordinator, working closely with other case managers and employment specialists. The program serves all ORR-eligible populations, including refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian entrants, through various federal funding appropriations. The primary function of the HPC is to increase health literacy, coordinate physical and mental health care, and organize wellness groups.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinate the Refugee Health Promotion program to ensure the successful implementation of Refugee Health Promotion program activities and initiatives.
  • Organize events and classes to provide opportunities to increase refugee and immigrant health literacy.
  • Collaborate with appropriate case managers to coordinate physical and mental health care for eligible refugees.
  • Organize wellness groups for refugees and immigrants.
  • Conduct outreach to eligible ORR eligible populations in need of healthcare assistance.
  • Work with Refugee Services Coordinator and Resettlement Director to develop, maintain, and deepen relationships with health partners and health experts to better support LSC's New Americans Program activities.
  • Develop and manage relationships with community organizations to facilitate community support for Refugee Health Promotion program activities.
  • Present information on the refugee resettlement program and opportunities to health partners.
  • Develop, organize, and implement opportunities for healthcare communities to provide support to refugees and health applications.
  • Monitor and track data, documenting client experiences and reporting.
  • Collect, report, and analyze the data for RHP program initiatives and for mandatory semiannual reports.
  • Assure the timely completion of Refugee Health Promotion program reports and other reports, as needed.
  • Ensure case files and notes for the programming are accurate and meet the standards of program compliance. Maintain records in client files on SharePoint and in IRIS.
  • Support LSC's New Americans Program involvement in community refugee activities, particularly activities around health and wellness.
  • Work with the outreach staff to ensure the coordination of volunteers participating in the Refugee Health Promotion program activities.
  • Coordinator with the Refugee Services Coordinator in all aspects of the Refugee Health Promotion Program.
  • Assist the Community Engagement Coordinator with the coordination of special projects, donation drives and special events.
  • Attend appropriate meetings pertaining to the Refugee Health Promotion program and related activities.
  • Adhere to all LSC policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Additional certifications or education relation to community health work is preferred.

Experience: At least two years work with international populations, preferably in health-related aspects.

Specific skills/abilities: Proficiency in an applicable language (Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, French, Swahili, etc.) is preferred. Cultural sensitivity as well as the ability to communicate professionally and clearly is a must.

Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc: Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and computers is preferred.
