Overview

The User Experience (UX) Designer analyzes, plans and sequences the interactions that a person has with software or applications over time. Working with research insights from the Human-centered design process, the UX Designer listens to the needs of our patients and physicians and responds with design that delivers against our key criteria for good design at Mayo Clinic: easy, clear, useful and pleasing. The role analyzes research findings and recommendations to plan and deliver Use Cases, User Journeys, User Flow Diagrams, Navigation Structures and Information Architecture to optimize the User Experience of our digital properties. In partnership with Product and Engineering teams, the UX Designer shapes products that advocate for user needs, deliver on business requirements, and contribute to a best-in-class seamless user experience throughout product discovery and development. Designs for browsers, responsive web, native apps, smart watches, kiosks, web-connected health monitoring devices and other consumer and health interfaces and systems. Creates and delivers Storyboards, Wireframes, Interface Modules and Pages, Prototypes and Design Specifications. Evaluates designs according to project-specific and enterprise standard metrics. Designs to meet WCAG 2.0 AA Accessibility Standard. Collaborates with the Experience Design team to maintain, grow, implement and refine Mayo Clinic's Digital Design Language. Facilitates Design Workshops and synthesizes divergent ideas into cohesive Design Proposals. Provides oversight of vendors that assist with Experience Design scope of work.
Responsibilities
Analyze, plan and sequence user interactions with software or applications over time.
Plan and deliver Use Cases, User Journeys, User Flow Diagrams, Navigation Structures and Information Architecture.
Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to shape products that meet user needs and business requirements.
Design for multiple platforms including browsers, responsive web, native apps, smart watches, kiosks, and health-related devices.
Create and deliver Storyboards, Wireframes, Interface Modules and Pages, Prototypes and Design Specifications.
Evaluate designs against project-specific and enterprise metrics and meet WCAG 2.0 AA Accessibility standards.
Maintain and refine Mayo Clinic's Digital Design Language; facilitate design workshops; synthesize ideas into cohesive proposals.
Provide oversight of vendors supporting Experience Design work.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED required and 7 years of experience.
Understanding of the Human Centered Design (HCD) process and current UX methods.
Excellent visual communication skills and ability to clarify complex problems; strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Ability to design on behalf of people with serious and complex medical conditions; self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
Keen interest in design industry trends; willingness to bring innovation to Experience Design.
Mentors others in Experience Design; knowledge of ethics and professionalism in design.
Understanding of security/sensitivity around patient medical data; experience with Accessibility concerns for digital products.
End-to-end knowledge of all stages of UX design (sketching, prototyping, iteration, refinement and evaluation).
Perspective on accessibility and how to infuse it throughout product development; ability to work with Researchers and Front End Engineers.
Clear communication to project or executive teams; iterative design cycle experience; proficiency with design tools (Adobe CS, Sketch, Figma, Mural, InVision, etc.).
Experience working in Scrum/Agile methodology to define User Stories as part of sprint planning.
Alignment with Human-Centered Design and Mayo Clinic’s patient-first values.
