WPIX is looking for a full‑time Weather Anchor. The Weather Anchor is a dynamic role that goes beyond forecasting weather conditions. The ideal candidate is capable of producing and anchoring weather reports for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers. Presentation should follow strategy developed from market research. The successful candidate should have a robust social media profile, be savvy in the digital space, and step up as a leader in the streaming space, advocating for and supplying robust content for PIX11+.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and present weather reports for all platforms.
  • Ensure all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Write and deliver weather stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assist in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather programming and other content.
  • Respond to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
  • Work closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
  • Participate in promotional activities including public appearances.
  • Write digital/social stories detailing the local forecast daily.
  • Actively create content for the station’s streaming platform PIX11+.
  • Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work‑related experience.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in weather reporting or anchoring (depending on market size).
  • Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Superior on‑air presence.
  • Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
  • Ability to identify developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.

Salary: $150,000 minimum.

Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level.
