We’re seeking an Audience Engagement Producer to help expand our reach, drive traffic growth through Google and referral partners, and build revenue opportunities across social media platforms, including Meta. This role sits at the heart of our newsroom, working closely with editors, reporters, and platform partners to ensure The Hill’s journalism reaches — and engages — the largest possible audience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grow Referral and Search Traffic
    • Optimize TheHill.com stories for Google Search and Google Discover through SEO best practices, headline testing, and keyword optimization.
    • Guide and optimize our story selection and distribution strategy with linking and referring sites (e.g., MSN, Apple News, Yahoo) to expand The Hill’s visibility and referral audience.
    • Monitor traffic sources daily and advise on editorial opportunities and distribution strategies to maximize reach.
  • Drive Social Revenue and Platform Performance
    • Help generate traffic and revenue through Meta and X platforms, including Facebook, by optimizing post frequency, format, and audience targeting.
    • Collaborate with the video team to grow watch time and engagement on monetized social products (e.g., Facebook Reels, X ).
    • Develop and execute experiments to increase performance and revenue yield from social content.
  • Editorial Promotion and Real-Time Audience Strategy
    • Promote breaking news, live blogs, and major political moments across The Hill’s owned channels (social, app, newsletters, alerts).
    • Surface trending topics using Google Trends and Chartbeat and other tools providing actionable insights to editors and reporters.
    • Recommend homepage and platform placement strategies that improve visibility for top-performing or high-impact stories.
    • Coordinate live streams and video embeds with the video team to increase cross-platform engagement.
    • Edit quick videos for social media and YouTube shorts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Experience working in a newsroom or fast-paced digital media environment.
  • Proven understanding of SEO and referral traffic strategy (Google Search Console, Discover, linking sites).
  • Experience managing social platforms, including Meta, YouTube, and X.
  • Proficiency with analytics and publishing tools such as Chartbeat, SocialFlow, Google Analytics, and Later.
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to write clean, accurate copy under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communicator who thrives in collaborative, high-pressure environments.

Salary Range: $25.48 - $28.85 per hour commensurate with experience.
