Austal is delivering multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Border Force, and the Department of Defence, employing approximately 1,000 people in facilities located in Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.
Austal has entered into a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) with the Commonwealth of Australia, launching a new era of continuous naval shipbuilding within the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Western Australia. As Australia’s Strategic Shipbuilder, Austal will start by delivering eighteen Landing Craft Medium and eight Landing Craft Heavy vessels for the Australian Army.
The SSA will drive significant growth across our industry and workforce, as we deliver existing and future programs under a long-term partnership. Through effective collaboration with our supply chain partners, Austal is driving innovation, developing sovereign capability, and creating lasting opportunities for Australian industry and workers.

About the Opportunity
As the Design Draftsperson for Austal Defence Australia (ADA), you’ll be responsible to provide and support the Design of a vessel from concept through to delivery, on time and on budget that satisfies the standards of Austal, the client and regulatory authorities.

What’s Involved
Produce accurate information and documentation, meeting all procedural and auditable requirements
Ensure vessel design complies with relevant regulatory authorities, specifications and customer requirements
Maintain a high attention to detail, minimising rework and ensuring consistency across deliverables.
Manage and incorporate design inputs from third parties, including drawings, certifications, and manuals
Monitor task schedules and deliverables to ensure deadlines are met without compromising quality.
Provide technical support as required across design and production teams.
You’ll Need
Formal drafting qualifications or equivalent
Proficient in drafting software, AutoCAD, Ship Constructor and Microsoft office
Basic understanding of materials and their compatibility in a marine environment
Skilled in 3D modelling
