Overview
This role is based in our 404 NW 10th Street, Portland, Oregon 972029 office.
Hotel Dive, a publication of Informa TechTarget, is looking for an editor to report, write, edit and help manage the operations of its daily and weekly newsletters. Hotel Dive covers news and trends in the hotel industry in areas including development, operations, labor, consumer behavior, technology and regulations. Coverage priorities include development and construction projects, major investments, M&A, quarterly earnings reports, economic trends, union activity and appointments at leading U.S. hotels, management companies and REITs.
The editor will work closely with the team on daily coverage strategy and help elevate all types of stories, from breaking news to in-depth analyses of trends. This job entails a mix of reporting, writing, editing and assigning stories, including for freelance contributors. You will regularly use analytics to guide coverage decisions and experiment with new approaches to digital reporting to grow the publication.
This position reports directly to the managing editor.
Responsibilities
- Report, write, edit and help manage the operations of daily and weekly newsletters.
- Collaborate with the team on daily coverage strategy and elevate stories from breaking news to in-depth analyses.
- Assign stories, including for freelance contributors.
- Use analytics to guide coverage decisions and experiment with new approaches to digital reporting to grow the publication.
Qualifications
- A track record of editing, writing and reporting
- Proven time management skills, particularly on deadline
- Ability to deftly edit various types of story formats, including but not limited to breaking news, short-form briefs and long-form trend stories
- A team player who takes joy in workshopping subject lines, headlines, sentence structure and strategy with others
- An aptitude for analyzing trends, data and issues for business leaders
- 3 or more years of journalism experience, preferably in hospitality or related sectors
- Excel at project management and collaborative projects
- Have familiarity with publishing daily or weekly email newsletters
- Know how to build relationships with important sources and report on complex subjects
- Can prove a solid understanding of the economic forces at play in designated beats
- Have experience reading earnings reports and can spot information useful for executives
- Worked with freelancers, sending assignments, editing their work and providing feedback
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for the role is $70k-80k USD, depending on experience.
