About Us
At the Surplus Line Association of California (SLA), we don’t sell insurance—we protect access to it. As the only organization overseeing California’s surplus lines insurance marketplace, we help support coverage availability for businesses when risks are too complex, too large, or too unique for the standard market. We review policy transactions, provide compliance tools and continuing education, monitor insurer stability, and deliver data-driven insights. SLA has been recognized by Fortune as one of the Bay Area’s best places to work.
Position Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Graphic Designer who will define the brand’s visual identity and shape market perception. You’ll help refine the SLA’s visual identity to ensure cohesive, professional, and intentional materials that communicate clearly and make complex information approachable and visually appealing.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage the evolution of our visual brand across print, digital, web, and video.
- Design print materials like annual reports, publications, and event pieces with layouts that balance heavy text and infographics.
- Create digital assets for campaigns, social media, and our website.
- Turn technical, data-heavy content into clean, accessible visuals.
- Collaborate with the communications team to ensure visuals and messaging flow together.
- Build and maintain design systems, templates, and brand standards that others can follow.
Who You Are
We’re looking for a designer who makes things make sense, not just look good. You think about the why behind every choice and care about your craft.
You Might Be a Great Fit If
- You have 5+ years of experience as a designer (agency or in-house).
- You’ve helped build or refresh a brand across multiple platforms.
- You’re confident in print design, especially long reports and layouts that mix text, data, and visuals.
- You have a strong portfolio showing range: brand identity, print, digital, and web.
- You know your way around Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- You’re organized, dependable, and can manage your own deadlines.
- You pay attention to detail—the kind that separates good design from great.
Bonus points if you’ve worked in finance, insurance, or a similarly structured environment, but it’s not required.
