Position Overview
The University of Kansas William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications seeks applications from persons interested in teaching a variety of courses for the School. These positions will be on a part‑time basis as needed, and may be available at the main campus in Lawrence or online, particularly in the Integrated Marketing Communications master's program.
PhD, MSJ, and undergraduate courses in a variety of areas are listed below in the job duties section.
The School invites qualified scholars to submit applications, which will be reviewed by faculty. Qualified applicants will be placed in a pool for consideration for part‑time, temporary, and/or regular teaching positions. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Any employment with the University of Kansas is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.
Lecturers are non‑tenure‑track members of the faculty with limited term appointments; their primary role is instructional with no obligations to perform research or service.
Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Candidates residing in California and Delaware are not eligible. Interested individuals from eligible states are invited to apply.

Required Qualifications
Evaluation will be based on: 1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in the letter of application; 2) record of accomplishments and productivity in the resume; and 3) information from professional references.
Graduate Level Courses
PhD, JD, MD, or other post‑graduate doctoral degree and at least two years of professional experience related to the subject or scholarly research or creative work suitable to the subject taught; OR
For those without a doctoral degree, at least a Master’s degree and seven years of relevant experience with demonstrated scholarly research credentials, including:
Published academic or scholarly articles, books, or equivalent material; and/or
Substantial creative products demonstrating work at the national or international level; and/or
A documented record of successful teaching at the graduate level.
Undergraduate Level Courses
Master’s degree and at least two years of professional experience related to the subject to be taught; OR
For those without a Master’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree in the discipline and five years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and ten years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes executive or management experience, research, analysis, and creative experience; preferred supervisory experience; and a documented record of successful teaching at the post‑secondary level.
Digital and Integrated Marketing Communications – Graduate Level Courses
PhD, JD, MD, MFA, or other post‑graduate doctoral degree with two years of professional experience related to the subject or scholarly research or creative work suitable to the subject taught; OR
For those with a relevant Master’s degree, at least seven years of service in the media, creative, or representative profession with publications or work products demonstrating executive or management experience, research, analysis, and creative experience, supervisory experience, and a documented record of successful teaching at the post‑secondary level; OR
For those without a relevant Master’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of service in the media, creative, or representative profession, with expertise specific to the course taught and documented publications or work products demonstrating the required experience and teaching record.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
