You’ll be responsible for:

  • Contributing to creating a welcoming, organized, clean and fun space for children and families.
  • Handling ticket sales and cash procedures.
  • Providing excellent customer service and ensuring kids have fun (like a lifeguard) as they play at the Randall Lewis Second Story and Beyond children’s museum.
  • Assisting with planning and presenting activities for families.
  • Light porter duties (such as cleaning surfaces).

Education and/or Experience

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, six units of college‑level technical library courses, one year of library experience or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree, six units of college‑level technical library courses, plus one (1) year of library experience.
  • Acceptable substitution: a total of five (5) years of library experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of library work; the use of library indexes, catalogs, and simple reference sources. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, especially children.

Physical Demands

Frequent standing and sitting. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty‑five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, references, and other materials. Moving from place to place within the office; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal occasionally.

Working Conditions

Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors, and noise. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends.

Successful candidates shall be required to:

  • Pass a reference and background verification. References will not be contacted until a mutual interest has been established.
  • Pass a pre‑employment medical exam.

If hired, candidate will be required to complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify that they are eligible for employment in the United States of America and furnish proof certifying legal authorization to work in the United States.
