Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilize all maintenance manuals, maintenance requirement cards, schematics, diagrams, drawings, technical directives, maintenance/servicing instructions and operational procedures.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, remove and replace parts and components on aircraft-mounted and aircrew ALSS, cabin environmental systems, equipment cooling, and liquid and gaseous oxygen systems.
- Inspect, maintain and repair survival equipment, flight gear, and protective clothing; use, adjust, and repair sewing machines.
- Perform duties in hazardous areas such as oxygen systems and engine fire extinguishing systems, including removal and replacement of cartridge-actuated devices.
- Ensure all maintenance actions comply with government safety standards.
- Maintain flow of flight line operations and procedures.
- Maintain ALSS rotatable pool of personal survival equipment, aircrew equipment files, and aircraft ALSS history records in required logs.
- Collaborate with other personnel to resolve ALSS system problems.
- Provide immediate direction and supervise other technicians on assigned tasks.
- Instruct and assist lower-level employees in proper work methods and performance.
- Perform related duties as assigned, including Collateral Duty Inspector and other lower‑rated technical personnel duties.
- Assist other shops/skills as required.
- Comply with applicable COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series.
- Work with technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.

- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of aviation life support equipment.
- Proficiency with military publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics.
- Knowledge of required forms.
- Understanding of safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Valid US State driver's license.
- Ability to read and interpret data.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Capability to obtain a government flight line driver’s license.
- Eligibility for a secret security clearance.
Experience & Education
- High School degree or equivalent.
- Completion of specialized courses in aircraft ALSS.
- 2–4 years of actual and recent experience with the type of aircraft being serviced (4 years preferred).
- Obtain appropriate support equipment and/or material handling licensing upon unit assignment.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
- Work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outdoors.
- Respond to varied operational circumstances, extreme weather, and rudimentary infrastructure.
- Exposure to noise from turbine and jet engines.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, and proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to walk and stand on level or inclined surfaces, climb stairs, ramps, and ladders.
- Ability to crouch, crawl, grasp, and handle objects; use dexterity to reach above/below shoulders.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Visibility requirements: see aircraft in flight, read gauges, identify small objects and tools.
- Communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Distinguish color and judge depth.
- Operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, and APU.
