SPIE is seeking a strategic and creative Public Relations Manager to champion our brand, members, and the fields of optics and photonics. You’ll play a pivotal role in increasing our visibility and quality of coverage in external media, including trade press, tech magazines, and web news sources. This is an opportunity to shape SPIE’s communications and connect with a global community of scientists and engineers.
At SPIE, we support innovation in light-based technology by hosting technical events, publishing research, and helping build a resilient optics and photonics community. As PR Manager, you’ll collaborate across departments, develop compelling content strategies, and build relationships with media and stakeholders. You don’t need a technical background, just a passion for effective communication and storytelling.
Pay range $66,847 to $100,322. Full-time, 40 hours per week position available, with a hybrid option.
Key Responsibilities Lead and execute content and messaging strategies to grow SPIE’s audience and impact.
Build and foster relationships with media, industry, and the R&D community.
Write, pitch, and distribute press releases and stories that highlight SPIE’s mission and achievements.
Measure and report on communications effectiveness, demonstrating ROI.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define goals, audiences, and operational plans.
Requirements BA/BS in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
3+ years of media/public relations or external communications experience.
Exceptional writing, editing, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Experience leading PR functions and developing successful messaging.
Compensation and Benefits Competitive wages, annual discretionary bonus. Pay range $66,847 to $100,322. Full-time, hybrid schedule.
