About the Role

Commodity Insights seeks an experienced reporter to lead coverage of metals and coal mining and markets with an Americas focus. A strong job seeker has a proven ability to learn a fairly technical beat quickly and develop a news sense for market moving news. The reporter should have a proven ability to build a diverse roster of sources among private sector companies. Knowledge of commodity markets or mining is a plus, but not required. There will be developmental opportunities associated with being a member of a strong news team. The position will be based in Washington, DC

Responsibilities and Impact

  • Writes spot, in-depth news and analysis pieces on key developments in global metals and coal markets with a focus on the Americas.
  • Works with Commodity Insights Market Reporters and Analytics team to enhance stories with proprietary data.
  • Liaises with production team to produce graphics to enhance news and analysis pieces.
  • Attends conferences and company meetings to learn about important issues.

Compensation

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.

What We’re Looking For

Basic Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preference for journalism, policy, economics, business
  • 3+ years of experience working as a reporter or editor for news organizations
  • Ability to develop sources on a new beat
  • Ability to identify and analyze data sets
  • Proficiency in Excel

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience covering commodities or metals industries
