Overview
Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer seeks a Reporter to join their Statehouse and politics team. The reporter will produce daily news and hunt for exclusives while developing high-impact investigations and enterprise stories. The ideal candidate will have an insatiable legislative appetite, a proven track record of standing up to the powerful, and the ability to cultivate a roster of trusted sources. The reporter will sift through state legislative proposals to find the policies that impact Ohioans most; produce watchdog journalism; and become the expert on topics readers care about most.

Responsibilities
- Produce daily news and pursue exclusives
- Develop high-impact investigations and enterprise stories
- Identify and cultivate trusted sources, including in government and politics
- Analyze state legislative proposals to identify policies impacting Ohioans
- Engage in watchdog journalism and become the expert on relevant topics
Qualifications
- Degree in Journalism or Communications or related field preferred
- 5+ years’ journalism experience with proven reporting and writing ability
- Proven ability to develop sources, including in government and politics
- Strong reporting and writing skills
- Open to leveraging AI and related tools to enhance job performance
- Ability to cut through bureaucracy to produce clear copy
- Ability to handle deadline pressure
- Reliable transportation to meet with sources and cover events
Salary
The base salary range is $60,000 to $70,000 per year.
