The University of Oklahoma Press seeks a highly organized individual with strong communication skills and an enthusiastic mindset to serve as our next Publicity Manager. This position is responsible for managing the public visibility for the press and its public relations more broadly for approximately 30 new titles and 75+ reprints each year. The Publicity Manager will develop and manage specialized campaigns and implement outreach efforts for the Press's entire book list encompassing trade, scholarly, and regional audiences. This position reports to the Director of Sales and Marketing and does not supervise any direct reports.
While a background in publishing or author relations is not required for this position, the chosen candidate must demonstrate strong multitasking and time management skills. They must also maintain a level of professionalism in all internal and external communications.

The Publicity Manager is responsible for centering the Press in both local and national conversations. This position will receive direct mentorship from the Director of Marketing and Sales and other experienced staff members. The Publicity Manager is the primary team motivator when it comes to sharing news about our titles, authors, or developments at the Press.

  • Campaign & Outreach
    • Oversee title-by-title publicity efforts.
    • Develop materials related to publicity outreach.
    • Submit titles to book awards.
    • Participate in pre-publication launch and planning meetings.
  • Communications & Relationship Management
    • Manage frontline marketing inquiries.
    • Regularly meet with media contacts to present new titles.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts.
  • Data & Administration
    • Maintain the in-house publicity database.
    • Build and maintain contact mailing lists.
    • Responsible for the delivery of publicity materials.
    • Report on publicity efforts.
    • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the position.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists with development of printed and electronic marketing-oriented communications, ensures quality, and makes recommendations to provide strategic and effective marketing communications to targeted customer groups.
  • Assists with design, layout, and written content for electronic, print, merchandise; promotional, multi-media communications and graphic arts projects. 
  • Assists with promotions, publicizes events, honors, announcements and news.
  • Reviews items for Style Guide compliance, making changes as needed.
  • Manages web site content, makes edits, and updates.  Discusses changes with supervisor.
  • Assists with redesigns on sites or pages for a better user experience.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining landing pages. 
  • Assists with marketing campaigns, including production and publicity photos.
  • Monitors progress of projects.
  • Assists with email marketing management.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
