The Role 
About the Role 
As a System Engineer, you will research, plan, design, develop, and test submarine and carrier systems such as tools, instruments, controls, and machines to improve production and safety. Responsible for concept design, development, and execution of programs and projects to integrate advanced systems and payloads on submarines and carriers. 
Key Responsibilities 
• Design, develop, test, and deploy software tools and applications to support ship design, production, and lifecycle management. 
• Support modeling, simulation, and data integration projects used across engineering disciplines. 
• Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements 
• Development and integration of advanced systems related to maritime applications including submarine systems and sub-sea warfare systems 
• Collaborate to solve complex problems, while acknowledging technical, schedule, and cost constraints 
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. 
Must Have 
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; 
 Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; 
 Ph.D. and 4 years of experience. 
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program. 
Nice to Have 
Nice to have: 
 
• Knowledge in industrial or shipbuilding manufacturing environments 
• Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or Digital Engineering (DE) 
• Functional and Logical Architectures 
• Previous experience in defense, shipbuilding, or aerospace industries. 
• DOD Security Clearance is , but not required to start
