Plummer Youth Promise
Director of Development and Communications
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development and Communications (DDC) leads Plummer’s efforts to obtain financial and in‑kind support that will sustain the organization at an exciting time of capital expansion and increasing annual operational funds. This position leads and is responsible for all fundraising projects and marketing communications, supervising a talented four‑person Development team that raised $1.2 M for the annual fund during FY25. The DDC also works closely with the Executive Director to oversee major gift fundraising for Plummer’s ongoing capital campaign, which has raised $18 M of the $25 M goal to support two buildings: a newly opened residential building for youth and the renovation of the historic Caroline Plummer House. The DDC serves as a member of Plummer’s Senior Leadership Team, a highly collaborative group that helps determine and implement the organization’s strategic priorities.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Fundraising
Lead the creation of the annual Development and Communications Plan, detailing strategies, goals, metrics, and tactics for the fiscal year.
Annual Fund: Develop and oversee a comprehensive program to increase philanthropy from $1.2 M raised in FY25 to more than $2 M over the next three years. Solicit support from individuals, family foundations, private foundations, and corporations.
Capital Campaign: Oversee the remainder of the $25 M campaign, helping raise the balance of $7 M to complete renovation of the historic Caroline Plummer House.
Prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for individual, foundation, and corporate donor pipelines, including asks capable of 5‑7‑figure gifts.
Supervise the Donor Engagement Manager on annual appeals, the Promise Circle monthly donor recognition group, and individual major gift asks of $4‑5 figures.
Supervise the Community Partnerships Manager on special events, corporate partnerships, community networking, and sponsorships.
Supervise the Development Operations Manager on gift processing, donor acknowledgements, database upkeep, and internal systems support.
Serve as staff liaison to the Campaign Cabinet and Advancement Committee, ensuring effective planning and reporting of fundraising and communications objectives.
Manage the Development budget, collaborating with the Executive Director, Director of Finance, and Senior Leadership Team to project resources needed to achieve strategic priorities.
Maintain accurate data and gift records, reconciling information with the Director of Finance regularly.
Communications
Direct strategic communications and marketing efforts to increase Plummer Youth Promise’s visibility with target audiences aligned with strategic priorities.
Lead the creation and implementation of the communications/development calendar, ensuring deadlines for printed materials, annual reports, brochures, and program materials are met.
Supervise the Digital Engagement Specialist on email marketing, content marketing, website updates, social media, and paid online advertising.
Identify public relations and advocacy opportunities, collaborating with Executive leadership to pursue the best methods.
Draft or support content creation for marketing, public relations, and advocacy.
Team Management
Provide exceptional leadership to four Development and Communications staff members and outside contractors.
Staff includes the Donor Engagement Manager, Community Partnerships Manager, Development Operations Manager, and Digital Engagement Specialist.
Support staff professional development and assist them as needed.
Foster strong collaboration, teamwork, and communication across the Development team.
Organizational Management
Actively participate with the Senior Leadership Team in strategic planning and execution of key efforts across the organization.
Regularly review, analyze, and contribute internal data sets to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
General
Represent the organization publicly at Plummer and non‑Plummer events, including frequent public speaking.
Prepare reports for, attend, and present to the full Board as requested by the Executive Director.
Other duties as assigned.

10+ years of experience in Development techniques; at least 5 years supervisory experience.
Successful experience designing, implementing, and evaluating a wide range of fundraising, community engagement, and communications activities.
Solid understanding of nonprofit financial management and compliance.
Understanding of legislative and regulatory processes is a plus.
Detail oriented, with superb verbal and written communication skills.
Confident and persuasive public speaker comfortable with small and large audiences.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, respecting confidentiality.
Ability to handle a quick‑paced, stressful environment independently and support others in that environment.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Teams, and donor databases, including data entry protocol and accurate reporting.
