Job Summary

Under general supervision, the AV Technologist II will set up and operate instructional technologies, video conferencing, and AV equipment for faculty, staff, and students. The role requires excellent customer service, clear communication, and collaboration with the instructional support team. Tier II support is provided in coordination with the Lead AV Technologist and the AV Engineering & Systems team. The position includes mentoring student AV support workers and entering incidents/tasks into Service Now. Weekend and evening support of events may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates Use of Audio/Visual Technology: Sets up, tests, and facilitates audio/visual systems including video teleconferencing, lecture capture, Zoom/MS Teams, and related technology to support teaching, meetings, and events.
  • Inspect Audio/Visual Equipment: Conducts periodic inspections of equipment to proactively identify issues and minimize risks.
  • Monitors and Supports Live Delivery: Monitors live instruction and special events using audio and video conferencing technologies.
  • Diagnoses and Resolves Issues: Resolves tier 1‑2 level hardware and software problems.
  • Participates in Recommendations: Contributes to the development of reliable, efficient, and cost‑effective solutions.
  • Inventory Management: Maintains inventory of audio/visual systems and checkout equipment.
  • Additional Duties: Supports classes and events outside normal business hours and performs any other assigned tasks.
  • Coordination: Works with other IT teams to resolve escalated technical and functional issues.
  • Training and Mentoring: Trains and mentors new AV student workers and full‑time staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of related experience, OR Associate's degree and four years of related experience, OR High School diploma, GED, or equivalent and six years of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in IT, Computer Repair, Electronics, Audio‑Visual, Engineering or a related field.
  • InfoComm‑Recognized AV Technologist Certificate preferred.
  • Experience in higher education and/or hospital environment.
  • Experience documenting functional requirements and technical specifications.
  • Experience with Windows and Macintosh hardware/software support.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

  • Teleconferencing, video conferencing, presentation systems, sound systems, SmartBoards, document cameras, wireless microphones, Echo360 Lecture Capture, Zoom/MS Teams, Live streaming, and related audiovisual hardware.
  • Network connectivity.
  • Use of hand tools of the AV trade (plus).
  • Microsoft Office products.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.

Abilities

  • Communicate effectively.
  • Maintain professionalism, self‑motivation, self‑discipline, and focus under pressure.
  • Climb ladders and lift over 50 lb.
  • Walk, stand, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve AV system issues.
  • Prioritize and execute tasks in high‑pressure environments.
  • Work before or after hours, including weekends, as required.
  • Read and understand technical documentation and conduct research.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; M‑F
Pay Band: B7
Salary: $20.29‑$20.83 hourly (commensurate with qualifications)
Recruitment Period: Until Filled

Benefits may include health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and tuition assistance for eligible employees ≥ 6 months.

The selected candidate must have a valid driver’s license. Human Resources will request a driver’s history report from the State DMV during the background check process.
