Job Summary

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and creative Marketing Specialist to contribute to the development of marketing and communications for the University of Utah Housing & Dining Programs (HDP) department. This specialist role involves supervising student ambassadors, designing, coordinating, and executing writing, design, and project management tasks, and ensuring proper branding of products, all while utilizing traditional and digital publishing technologies to produce diverse communication materials.

This position will be part of the HDP marketing and communications unit, reporting directly to the Marketing and Assessment Manager. The team is comprised of an associate director, a manager, and specialists who supervise a group of student interns. This is a hybrid role that requires in‑person meetings and maintaining a regular physical presence at the department. The ideal candidate is a self‑directed professional who can work comfortably in a fast‑paced environment and be accountable for results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute communications plans based on HDP application cycles, assessment projects, and marketing priorities (e.g., move‑in campaign, Upper Division and First‑Year housing application, and the Resident Satisfaction Survey) by utilizing traditional and electronic publishing technologies.
  • Collaborate with key partners such as the Office of Admissions, Orientation, and Alumni, to coordinate housing tours with student ambassadors (scheduling and staffing).
  • Oversee content creation for social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok). Work with student ambassadors and campus partners; manage a group of 5/6 students who develop design, video, and photography content for regular posts and specific campaigns.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of marketing/communication tactics and adjust communication plans as necessary.
  • Research, develop, proofread communications, and monitor media.
  • Develop and adhere to project timelines, ensuring that deliverables (digital and distributed material) are accurate and timely.
  • Support the marketing unit by contributing to cross‑functional efforts, including internal and external events, move‑in presentations for new students, and in‑state and out‑of‑state recruitment trips during the recruitment season.
  • Perform other related technical duties as assigned.
