The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking qualified marine painters, with 1+ years of hands on Marine painting work experience. A candidate should know the proper method for applying coatings while maintaining desired MIL thickness. The painter will work in a physically demanding environment including confined spaces and heights, using power tools, hand tools, or chemicals to prepare surfaces for coating systems. They are responsible for selecting and applying a wide variety of marine coating systems, interpreting paint schedules, calculating surface areas, estimating material quantities, testing paint grade, viscosity, and fineness, and performing final quality inspections.

Must Have

• Must be able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs and must take and pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.
• Must be able to work indoors/outdoors year round.
• Must be able to pass a Physical Agility Test.
• Candidates must have minimum of 2+ years paint experience.
• Must be able to work any of our 3 shifts.
• Must provide up to 7 years of work history (if applicable) and all relevant paint experience.

Nice to Have

• High school graduate or equivalent.
