Marketing & Communications Director Overview Utah State University (USU) invites applications for the position of Marketing and Communications Director for the Online Enterprise and Digital Learning Technology Division. The Division encompasses the Online Enterprise, Educational Technology and Innovation Lab (iLab), Digital Accessibility Services, and Professional and Continuing Education—extending USU’s land‑grant mission to learners anywhere. This senior leader provides strategic vision, executive oversight, and fiscal stewardship for all marketing, branding, and communications functions. The Director advanced the Online Enterprise’s reputation, drove student and partner engagement, and supported revenue growth through innovative, data‑informed strategies.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership (30%)
– Serve as the senior advisor on all marketing and communications strategy for the Online Enterprise and larger division; develop and execute a comprehensive plan that advances online enrollment, revenue, and brand visibility; represent the Online Enterprise in university committees and strategy discussions.
Team Leadership & Management (25%)
– Lead, mentor, and evaluate the marketing and communications team; establish systems for project management, workflow efficiency, and performance measurement; promote a data‑informed and innovative approach to communications and campaign design.
Communications & Engagement (20%)
– Oversee internal and external communications; direct outreach strategies to diverse audiences; serve as spokesperson or delegate in coordination with University Marketing & Communications and Strategic Enrollment Management.
Marketing & Brand Strategy (15%)
– Build and steward the Online Enterprise brand; direct integrated campaigns across digital, social, web, email, print, video, and paid media; apply market research and analytics to guide strategy and assess effectiveness.
Budgetary & Operational Oversight (10%)
– Provide fiscal oversight for the marketing and communications budget; ensure resources are strategically invested to maximize impact; oversee vendor and agency contracts, procurement, and external service agreements.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Hired as either a Marketer III or Marketer SR based on duties and level of experience.
For Marketer III: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, business administration, or related field plus four years of relevant experience.
For Marketer SR: Bachelor’s degree in the same fields plus six years of relevant experience.
Leadership experience and proven effectiveness in budget management, fiscal oversight, resource allocation, digital marketing, brand management, and strategic communications.
Exceptional strategic, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education, online learning, professional education, or workforce development.
Knowledge of enrollment management, continuing/professional education markets, and B2B/B2G partnership marketing.
Experience with enterprise‑level CRM, analytics, and marketing automation platforms.
Strong record of collaboration with senior leadership, faculty, and external stakeholders.
