Summary The Communication Specialist plays a key role in sharing the stories of CBU’s students, faculty, staff, and alumni in a way that reflects the university’s mission and values. The specialist will create engaging, accurate, and brand-aligned content for a variety of platforms, including the university website, printed publications, internal newsletters, and feature news stories. This position requires strong interviewing and research skills, attention to detail, the ability to adapt tone and style for various audiences, and the ability to thrive in a deadline‑oriented environment while building relationships among internal clients. The specialist will support the Marketing and Communications division’s initiatives designed to increase student enrollment and strengthen public awareness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and write compelling news releases and feature stories that highlight the university’s programs, activities and people for both online and print distribution.
Research industry trends and monitor campus life to identify and recommend story ideas.
Write, edit and proofread content for news platforms, newsletters, publications, marketing materials, speeches, special projects and media relations.
Ensure all written content adheres to CBU’s brand standards, AP Style and university editorial guidelines.
Support the Marketing and Communications division by maintaining project management files and collaborating with other staff members.
Pursue professional growth through reading, training and professional development opportunities as directed.
Collaborate with graphic designers, photographers and other team members to support marketing and communication campaigns.
Assist in production of print and online materials.
Participate in media-related events on and off campus.
Coordinate writing assignments with college photographers to obtain accompanying visuals.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communication/mass communication, marketing, public relations or a related field. One to two years of related experience in a professional writing position in a marketing, higher education environment or a creative setting.
