Position Summary L’Alliance New York seeks an experienced, highly organized, editorially sharp Director of Public Relations & Editorial to lead public-facing communications. This role will shape the organization’s voice, manage media relationships, produce compelling content, and ensure brand consistency across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and drive a multi‑channel communications strategy aligned with organizational objectives, including brand awareness, program promotion, and crisis communication protocols.
Lead the development, documentation, and implementation of efficient processes for creating marketing and communication materials.
Track key performance indicators across platforms to inform data‑driven decisions and optimize strategies.
Stay at the forefront of AI‑driven marketing tools and evaluate opportunities to streamline press workflows and enhance editorial content.
Own and evolve L’Alliance New York’s brand voice across all communications platforms.
Oversee creation and quality control—writing and editing—of all communication materials, ensuring alignment with brand tone, accuracy, and style consistency.
Collaborate closely with the Director of Audience Development & Marketing to ensure all marketing materials are on brand and in the correct editorial voice.
Develop editorial frameworks and storylines to support seasonal initiatives and audience engagement.
Lead all press, PR, and media relations efforts, including pitching stories, writing and distributing press releases, obtaining preview articles, and coordinating interviews.
Create, implement, and oversee innovative press strategies and execution timelines for all programs.
Leverage a strong network of relationships with key journalists and editors in New York, nationally, and internationally (France and the francophone world).
Prepare and distribute press kits, coordinate media attendance at events, and manage press archives.
Develop and execute proactive crisis communication plans and manage PR crises with discretion and strategic messaging.
Attend events on evenings and weekends as needed to support marketing functions.
Manage media coverage reporting and analytics to measure impact.
Coordinate event photography scheduling, documentation, and photo usage permissions.
Oversee creation and management of face‑sheets for important events, ensuring key participants are accurately represented.
Assist with filming and photographing at events as needed.
Perform additional duties as required to meet overall business objectives.
Who You Are
Highly experienced in press, PR, and editorial management.
Exceptional writer and editor with strong tone, clarity, narrative structure, and grammar.
Proven experience managing public-facing content across digital and print.
Extremely well organized with superb attention to detail and copy‑approval workflows.
Skilled at fostering collaborative relationships and resolving conflicts.
Comfortable managing event photography and collaborating with creative teams.
Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and thrives in a collaborative, mission‑driven environment.
Passionate about culture, language, education, and storytelling.
Experience & Qualifications
6–8 years of experience in communications, editorial, and PR roles, ideally in a non‑profit, cultural, or educational setting.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and management skills with a proven track record in strategic communications planning and execution.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an impeccable eye for detail.
Demonstrated success in securing media coverage for a New York and/or international educational or arts institution.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
Active and robust network of media contacts in New York and France.
Knowledge of emerging marketing technologies, including AI tools, with the ability to recommend innovative applications for editorial excellence and media reach.
Familiarity with email platforms, CMS, and collaborative tools (Google Workspace, Asana, WordPress, MailChimp, etc.).
Must be able to work on select evenings and weekends at L’Alliance New York events in Manhattan and Montclair, NJ.
French language proficiency is a strong plus.
